Maharashtra colleges resume physical classes

Universities and colleges in Maharashtra resumed physical classes from October 20 with strict Covid-19 SOPs.

On Wednesday, colleges and universities across Maharashtra reopened for physical classes. As per the state governments' directive, only fully vaccinated students are allowed to attend classroom sessions. For students who cannot attend physical classes, online lecture facilities will continue.

Last week only, Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant announced that all the colleges and universities in the state could conduct physical classes from October 20. Physical classes for students from 5 to 12 began on October 4.

Universities should issue Covid-19 SOPs

Samant has further added that every university should issue separate Covid-19 SOPs for the colleges affiliated to it.

As per the SOP issued by Mumbai University, a maximum of 50 percent of students can sit in a class. Colleges should give students the option of attending online classes. Further, they should also keep a record of the Covid-19 vacation certificate of every student, staff member, etc. who is attending the physical sessions.

"There was mixed reaction from students on day one. Some students are willing to attend college while some still prefer online lectures," said Seema Sapale, vice-principal of Kirti College at Dadar.

The Education Minister, took to his twitter handle and extended his greetings to students. He tweeted, "Best wishes to all student friends.Only those who have life in their dreams reach the destination....Nothing happens if you only have wings, flight is taken with courage."
