The Assam government on Tuesday made an announcement to provide electricity to 13,120 primary schools, 48,231 Anganwadi centers, and 4.80 lakh households in the state. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has approved Rs 161.42 crore for the project.
Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the state cabinet has decided that 4,80,249 un-electrified households in the state will be electrified.
“Out of these, 4,09,050 households are under on-grid mode and 71,199 households are under the off-grid mode, and the cabinet has approved Rs 1718.18 crore for it. The cabinet has also decided to procure 9000 distribution transformers, 11 power transformers and install 70 pre-fabricated compact sub-stations, and repair 4200 damaged distribution transformers in the state and has sanctioned Rs 250.08 crore for improving voltage and reducing power distribution losses. The cabinet has approved the implementation of a smart metering project by installing 6,20,100 smart meters to improve billing process and energy accounting,” Keshab Mahanta said.
